London based lecturer Jonathan Kewley will share with us the contents of

Pevsner’s Isle of Man, of which he is the author.

Jonathan’s talk takes place at the Manx Museum Lecture Theatre

Elizabeth Corlett of the Isle of Man Public Records office on the work that goes on behind the scenes to preserve the Island’s memory.

This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the change and growth in Douglas through the 19th and early 20th centuries by way of plans once held by Douglas Corporation from Building By-Law applications.

CAMERA OBSCURA 2023

Volunteers from the Society operate the Camera Obscura up on Douglas Head on weekends and bank holidays during the summer season.

If you are currently a volunteer participating in this work please check your emails and letter post for information from Secretary Ruth Kelly seeking availability from 29th April to 1st May and 7th to 8th May.

If you are interested in the Camera Obscura and would like to help out (it’s a duty of up to 2½ hours, maybe twice a year) then please get in touch with us and we will be happy to train new volunteers and work with you. Volunteers always work in pairs and you will always meet interesting visitors to the Island!

 Wreck and Rescue on the Manx Coast

John's talk will include images from his comprehensive collection and will cover wrecks on the Manx coast, the work of the Rocket Brigade, lifeboats, lighthouses and lightships.
